DJ Bling Foundation, along with MadeGood, sponsored Gretchen Ewing’s Silver Award project for Girl Scouts. Gretchen chose this project because she has a severe peanut allergy and wants everyone to recognize a food allergy and know what to do if a reaction occurs. Gretchen’s flyers describe in English and Spanish the common food allergies, what reactions look like, and what to do if someone is having a reaction. MadeGood donated granola bars free from the common allergens for each flyer. 2,000 flyers and granola bars were distributed to 7 Austin area schools and at the 2022 Bastrop ISD Back to School Bash to educate students on food allergies.
1 in 13 kids in the U.S. has a food allergy. Food allergies are very serious and every 3 minutes a food allergy reaction sends someone to the ER. It is important to recognize a food allergy and be aware if someone you know has one. DJ Bling Foundation believes in the work Gretchen has started and we look forward to implementing a nutrition and food allergy awareness program to our work with help from Gretchen.
